Bright Cecilia was founded in 2006 at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in the USA, and graduated with an MA in Ensemble Singing from the University of York in 2009. We are an ensemble of flexible forces who approach performance as research, see the written score as only a beginning, and strive to take our art more seriously than ourselves. Recent UK performances include English lute song and Franco-Flemish polyphony with Jacob Heringman and Susanna Pell for the innaugural concert of Early and Sacred Darlington, and Forbidden Sacred: music for an English Cavern in the Buxton Fringe Festival, for which we were awarded Best Small Ensemble. Our current line-up is devoted to exploring the intimate and virtuosic vocal chamber repertoire of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
